To build tone, every part of the piano must be in good working order according to the manufacturers specifications. Otherwise playing the piano can feel like a chore rather than something meant for enjoyment.
I've spent my entire career seeking to master the art of voicing piano hammers.
The Secret:
It doesn't start with the hammers.
The Soundboard has to be fully resonant.
The Bridges should be a very very hardwood that is considered to be a Tone Wood.
The Strings scaled and strung properly so as not to choke the board.
Hammers of High Quality, the proper mass, and mated to the strings
Action regulated and in good working order.
Stable tuning
Then the Hammer Voicing just begins.
Voicing is an Art.
The voicer has to have the skill and experience of listening to a hammer, and know which part of the hammer is causing the issue.
After a piano has been voiced properly, it can truly transform the piano from just an okay piano, to an extraordinary one.
The video is a demonstration using dyes to illustrate where and how B-72 is used to voice a cold pressed hammer.
